Specialist compliance mandates

Thailand · Hong Kong-Shanghai · China-Canada · SG / MY / TH / HK / BVI

Not every engagement is a company being born or restructured. A large share of cross-border work is remedial: a business that grew faster than its controls, an import-export operation that never formalised its compliance, a tax position nobody has stress-tested since it was set up.

The situation

Three very different clients, one underlying condition. A manufacturer in Thailand was facing tax compliance checks with no independent read on its own exposure. Cross-border trading businesses spanning Hong Kong-Shanghai and China-Canada had import-export compliance questions and no internal control system to answer them with. And a Guangzhou social-media company needed entities across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and the BVI -- five jurisdictions of setup and tax compliance for a business that had none of that infrastructure yet.

What the engagement covered

For the Thai manufacturer, a tax compliance health check: the firm's standard opening move, identifying the risk points first and returning an actionable remediation path rather than a generic report. For the trading businesses, import-export compliance work, the build-out of an internal control system, and a standing annual advisory arrangement to keep both running. For the social-media company, incorporation across all five jurisdictions with one-stop tax and compliance advisory over the whole set.

Mandates like these are why the partner network exists. Every jurisdiction in this engagement -- Thailand, the Mainland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, the BVI -- is covered by a long-standing local partner firm, coordinated from Hong Kong, so five countries of work still comes through one window and one set of facts.

What changed

Risk points were identified before they became findings. The missing controls and processes were built rather than papered over. And each client's entities -- however many jurisdictions they span -- now run inside a single framework, with one party accountable for the whole of it.

Client identities and identifying details have been removed -- confidentiality is part of our creed.
