Multi-jurisdiction finance management
United States · Hong Kong · Singapore · Thailand
A group that grows across borders usually grows its bookkeeping one country at a time: a local accountant here, a spreadsheet there, each entity keeping records the way its own market expects. Every set of books is defensible on its own. Together they are unusable -- the same transaction looks different in every ledger, and nobody can put the group on one page.
The situation
The clients in this engagement held operating entities across the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. Ledger treatments differed from entity to entity, so financial information could not be merged or compared: management saw four sets of numbers that did not speak the same language, and group-level decisions had to be made without a group-level view.
What the engagement covered
Two threads ran in parallel. For a US trading client, we provided our finance system under licence with guidance on running it, processed the full ledger, and reviewed the financial statements it produced. For clients with Hong Kong, Singapore and Thai companies, we provided cross-border tax advisory, built out a business-finance integrated system -- accompanying the client through implementation rather than handing over a manual -- and carried the routine load of bookkeeping, audit and tax filing in each place.
The system work is the heart of this kind of mandate. A business-finance integrated system means the operating side and the accounts share one source of truth, so the numbers are produced by the business running, rather than reconstructed after the fact. Building these systems is not subcontracted expertise: it is the founder's own background, from leading bilingual business-finance system implementations inside a multinational group.
What changed
Ledger treatments are now consistent across every entity, so the figures are comparable and can be consolidated. The group finally has numbers that can carry decisions -- which markets earn, which entities need attention, what the whole picture looks like -- and each jurisdiction's compliance runs on its own calendar without the entities drifting apart again.
Client identities and identifying details have been removed -- confidentiality is part of our creed.
